When is the Diving Best at Coral Lodge?

The best time for diving at Coral Lodge is between April and November, with September and October being generally excellent.  This is also the rainy season but the seas are generally calmer and visibility is normally very good. Our diving areas are not affected by rain runoff unless there is a strong prolonged rain front which happens once or twice each season. Generally during the dry season, from December to the end of March, there is roughly a 30% chance of diving due to the strong winds and wave conditions which cause bad visibility and make getting back into the boat difficult. If the primary purpose of your trip is diving then we would recommend April through November.

SCUBA DIVING….

Dive a new destination with no crowds, no schedules and nothing set, except the amazing outer reefs and marine life of the San Blas Archipelago. Only 2 miles from the resort, is an extensive unexplored pristine reef known as “Baja Escribano.” An under water wilderness of un-touched corals, sponges and a variety of marine life. Chances are you will be the first to explore a given area on most dives. In this rich, vibrant venue you can see different rays, moray eels, parrotfish, nurse sharks, mantas, barracuda, the occasional porpoise and many other colourful fish. With twice the diversity of hard corals (68) as Costa Rica and over sixty different species of marine sponges alone, San Blas was designated as one of the ten best preserved reef areas in the world.
You decide when, where and how many. Up to 4 boat and shore dives, not to mention the great snorkeling off the deck of you over-the-water bungalow.

No rules…no schedules… free to lay back and enjoy or venture out and explore….

Enjoy kayaking though the mangrove and coral bays, flats, inlets and canals next to the resort or join the divers on the outer reefs with a clear bottom kayak. Swim and snorkel the reefs and tidal pools or go for walks along the coral sand beach amongst swaying palm trees or hike into the tropical rainforest next to the resort.

In the afternoons and evenings, relax over cocktails in the over the water bar, the pool or your villa's hot tub and enjoy the marine life from your own sundeck.

Other activities include San Blas island tours and overnights stays on the islands, sport fishing, eco-trekking,  horse back riding, and a variety of excursions.

Before or after your stay at with us we can arrange historical tours of Portobello ( Spain 's first outpost on the continent), Panama City , canal and night life tours.

 GUIDED MANGROVE KAYAK EXCURSION: to a beautiful mangrove bay with inlets to the east or a long mangrove canal to the west if tides permit $25 per person.

 GUIDED SNORKELING: Depending on water conditions there are a variety of places for great snorkeling.  Join the scuba divers on the boat and the dive master will be happy to point you in the right direction.  $65 per person.

 SANTA ISABEL RIVER AND VILLAGE TOUR: Visit the last village in Colon province (an ideal movie set for “Lost” or “Survivor”) and one of the most remote in Panama, while enjoying a quintessential jungle river.  We only offer this at high tide in order to pass the river mouth. Upon request.

 GUIDED RAINFOREST TREK: (in the dry season) to a nearby river with incredible lush tropical jungle foliage  $25 per person, 2 person minimum.

 HORSE RIDING EXCURSION: on a jungle trail and/or a long beautiful beach.   Includes a 10 minute boat ride from the lodge.  Please book this trip at least one day in advance since we use the local villager’s horses for this tour and logistics can be difficult.  2 – 3 hrs. RATES: $45 per person, 2 person minimum.

 DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING: with our Dive Master.  A great introduction to scuba diving with a short theory overview, pool practice, a shore dive and a shallow reef dive if conditions permit. $85 per person.

 SAN BLAS ISLAND TOUR: You can schedule a private tour for a longer all day excursion at a cost of $145 per person , 2 person minimum.
